YERBURY SCHOOL, FROM CLOAKROOM TO SCIENCE LAB 'Q'
Formerly used as a cloakroom and storage, Yerbury Primary School’s new science lab ‘Q’ in North London has been reconfigured to provide children a dedicated place to ask fundamental questions related to science by watching tadpoles become frogs, testing how sound travels through materials and exploring why things go up or down. ‘Q’ stands for questioning.
‘Q’ was unveiled with ribbon cutting by Dr Chris Van Tullekan of CBBC television series ‘Operation Ouch!’.
KIMBER COTTAGE, NEWBURY STARTS ON SITE
The refurbishment of Kimber Cottage near Newbury, Berkshire has started on site with Blue Tongue Construction (www.bluetongueconstruction.co.uk). This sprawling, two-story thatched country house is set within the beautiful, rolling farmland of Berkshire, England. In addition to a comprehensive refurbishment, our design includes the alteration of the current dining room into a dramatic double-high space that flows into the kitchen. It is anticipated that the work for this challenging project will be completed by Autumn 2020.
CTA PARTICIPATES IN THE RIBA OPEN DESIGN COMPETITION, "LOW LINE"
Our concept for this open competition – S E E D – is an acronym for Sustainable, Environmental, Emergent, Development. It is based on the strategic planting of metaphorical ‘seeds’ or catalysts along the rail line between London Bridge and Southwark Park in South London. The proposal seeks to work collaboratively, in partnership with local residents, business and community groups and Network Rail. Critical to our approach is the reclaiming of small sites and lost spaces in an extended and organic process of eclectic places and uses – a ribbon of green infrastructure.
DESIGN BEGINS ON BUSH FARM, ESSEX
CTA has been commissioned to design and oversee the construction of a large farm estate in the beautiful countryside of Epping Green, Essex. The project includes the conversion of an existing farm structure into a family home as well as the refurbishment and alteration of the main house of the property – commanding spectacular views. In collaboration with a landscape designer, work will include the development of the 13-acre site, locating new stables, ménage and parking. We are looking forward to work together with the interior designer Caz Myers Design (www.cazmyers.com).
16th CENTURY COUNTRY HOUSE REFURBISHMENT COMPLETED
CTA has completed the refurbishment of this Grade II Listed house in the countryside of Kent. A substantial part of our work was to understand the historic development of the house, comprising an original 17th-Century timber frame structure to which Georgian, Victorian and modern additions were made. The result is an assemblage of spaces that are very much of today but with a deep reveal and connection to its past.

PLANNING PERMISSION GRANTED FOR 'THE CLEARING', HAWKHURST
We’re pleased to announce that our design has received Planning and Listed Building Consent. This was after an extended period of work – not only developing the design sensitively to the existing Georgian Listed house but also getting through environmental impact and foundation design to build over the extensive number of mature tree roots.

We’re excited to have been shortlisted (one of five) for RIBA competition to re-design the currently under used public open space at Prescot Market Place in Merseyside, not far from Liverpool. Our design sought to provide a dynamic, flexible, multi-use event space – an ‘Open Pavilion’ – in the heart of this historic town. The proposal comprises a raked landscape as urban green or stage for open events, performances and gatherings throughout the day and year.
