Charles Tashima was born in New York City and has lived internationally until settling in London. He received his Bachelors in Liberal Arts at Wesleyan University in 1987 and his Masters in Architecture at Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 1991. Upon graduating with honours, he was recipient of the Thesis Prize for his final design project. In that year he was also awarded the prestigious Harvard University Kennedy Traveling Fellowship to study vernacular architecture and landscape for a one-year “grand tour” through Eastern Europe, Turkey, Greece and Italy.
Charles' engaging and collaborative approach comes from his extensive years of teaching. From 1993-1996 he was a design tutor with Marcel Meili and Markus Peter at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) in Zürich. Following on, he taught at The Architectural Association in London as Unit Master from 1997 to 2006 and Academic Head from 2009-11. He has been a visiting critic, juror and external examiner at a number of schools internationally, including a Visiting Professorship at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
He has worked in practices in the US, Switzerland and Germany before founding Charles Tashima Architecture in 1999.
Estefânio has experience on a wide range of projects from working across different sectors since 2002. From civic and education buildings to residential projects, he has gathered experience across all stages, from inception to construction.During his practice he has also acquired a consistent understanding of construction techniques and materiality, along with a particular interest in how things are built and the tectonic expression of design. He was born in Paris and studied architecture at Coimbra University in Portugal where he graduated with distinction with his thesis “(dis)Simulated Urbanity and City”, on shopping centres and their impact on American and European cities. He is currently a member of ARB.
Daniel is a qualified architect with over 8 years experience working for a range of practices in the UK and Japan. Having graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture Daniel has worked on several large scale projects including the Zayed National Museum, Abu Dhabi for Foster & Partners. He was a key team member involved with the design of Ilona Rose House, a 30,000 sqm mixed use development currently under construction in central London.
Daniel is particularly interested in the process of making and enjoys exploring the spaces between digital and traditional craft.
Stefania joined Charles Tashima Architecture in 2018. Originally from Salta, in Argentina, Stefania gained her degree in Architecture from Universidad Nacional de Tucuman in 2013. She has many years of work experience in several architectural firms in both Argentina and London, working in different sectors and styles. Following her degree, she was a key member in two prestigious practices in Argentina, working on contemporary residential and commercial projects. She moved to the UK in 2016 where she worked for two years at a prolific high-end residential firm that specialises in classical and traditional architecture.
Rebecca Warren is practice manager at Charles Tashima Architecture. After graduating from Christ Church Canterbury University with an honours degree in Art & Education, she has gained experience in the creative industry over the last 20 years working in marketing, finance and HR. Previously Rebecca was business manager at Hogarth Architects in south west London.
Sejal works as financial accountant for Charles Tashima Architecture Ltd. She is an ACCA qualified accountant with many years of accounting and auditing experience for a mixture of non-profit and the private sector.
