Edwardian Flat

Dartmouth Park, London | NW5

We were asked to provide a limited architectural service to re-configure and re-design this first floor flat in Dartmouth Park, not far from Hampstead Heath. There was a tight budget, so we focussed on a reduced palate of materials to provide a characterful, airy and simple series of spaces, suiting our client's furniture and needs, including a piano.

The hallway, living-dining room, kitchen and bedroom flooring is reclaimed herringbone on a specially designed subfloor, providing good acoustic separation from the ground floor tenant. The bathroom is simply laid out with white metro tile walls and Morroccan tiled floors.

The kitchen is small but has pretty much everything; it's also open onto a small balcony and dining-living area, a generous double-fronted room, which we improved by enlarging the opening between the two rooms as well as doors onto the hallway.

We were pleased with the process and results of this work, as all of the information was communicated through drawings. Our scope was limited to design development, handing over our drawings and specifications to one of our trusted contractors, who did a fantastic job at following and interpreting our design. It is anticipated that a second phase of work will be to build out the attic into a loft-studio space.
